A leader sets the tone within an organisation with the behaviours they demonstrate on a consistent basis. I always enjoyed working with tenacious leaders in sport and business.
I admired how their tenacity calmed fears and inspired action in their peers. It was a trait I always strived to demonstrate in my leadership roles and it is the latest ‘Leadership Essential.’
Mike Tyson (Heavyweight Champion of the World) famously said, “Everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the face.”
The reality is that every business, every strategy and every leader will be tested at some point.
When that occurs and you are met by that proverbial ‘punch in the face’, it is tenacity that will help you prevail as a leader.
It is vital to inspire your team by demonstrating that you are someone who will not easily relinquish a position, principle or course of action at the first sight of adversity.
Winston Churchill was a leader who powerfully demonstrated this. His tenacity and willingness to keep moving forward despite unimaginable pressure inspired a nation during one of its darkest hours.
Is tenacity a trait you would value being embodied by your team? If so make sure your role model it within your leadership style.
