We have just published the twenty second episode of The Lonely Leader Podcast. As we reflected as a team on the journey from concept to reality we recognised a number of lessons that we can all learn from when looking to launch a new concept or strategy.
1) Accelerate learning and progress by accessing the right mentors.
We are not the first people to launch a Podcast. It made sense to connect with other podcasters. We enrolled in training programmes and consumed content from successful podcasters. This gave us a tremendous bank of knowledge to draw from as well as some very helpful insights into what not to do!
Before you launch any new product or strategy ask yourself who has walked this path ahead of me? Access and learn from them as mentors.
2) Proper preparation prevents p*** poor performance.
I first encountered this quote over twenty years ago when reading about the SAS in the book Bravo Two Zero. The notion has stuck with me ever since. We worked hard to shape our vision and put in place the necessary components for a) a successful launch and b) delivering a quality product over the long term.
Time spent in preparation is rarely wasted.
3) Do not get lost in procrastination.
Yes planning is essential BUT there is a tipping point when you drift from planning into procrastination. I think this is even more pertinent when stepping out of your comfort zone into a new area ( as we did with the podcast).
I was certainly guilty of delaying the launch as I continued the quest for more knowledge and insight. Eventually I reminded myself of the quote from Rob Moore that sometimes you have to 'start now and get perfect later.´ Rather than delay trying to learn every possible nuance of podcasting we launched and allowed ourselves to the luxury of being able to learn and enhance the product as we went along.
Do not let procrastination prevent you from launching your product, strategy or idea!
4) Play to your strengths and delegate the rest.
I recognised that creating content is my strength. Editing /producing audio and video content is not. If you try to be a Jack of all trades you will be a master of none!
I recruited quality staff to assist me. I was so impressed with them that they have joined The Lonely Leader and are helping develop and grow our Media Agency.
If you would like some support creating or launching your podcast or with your social media content and strategy please do get in touch with us on the below link.
Make sure you delegate to people whose strengths compliment your weakness.
5) Be consistent.
Nothing worth achieving happens immediately. You have to find the discipline and drive to take the required actions consistently. We committed to publishing an episode every week and have taken the steps to honour that commitment.
Be consistent! Momentum may be slow to build initially but it will arrive eventually if you are consistent in your actions.
6) Source feedback.
Feedback enables you to ensure your product remains relevant and of value to people. I love the DM messages I receive and the emails the team receive. It helps us shape future content for our community of listeners.
Source feedback to enable you to develop new iterations of your product or strategy.
On that note I will close by listing the titles of the first twenty two episodes, along with the Apple, Spotify and Youtube links. For those of you who already listen and follow the show, thank you your support is very much appreciated.
For those who have not yet listened please do check it out and I would be grateful if you can share your thoughts on existing episodes (or topic areas you would like us to cover in the future) via DM with me.
