Creating an empowering morning routine is a non negotiable for all of the high performers I have had the privilege to work with. There is no one size fits all, you must craft the routine that works best for you. Here are some suggestions for building a routine that can transform your performance in your professional role:
CREATE A WINDOW - Get up early enough to have a window that allows you to start your day proactively as opposed to reactively
HYDRATE - Rehydrate after a night's sleep with some water before enjoying that morning coffee
DIGITAL DETOX - Avoid diving straight into emails, news and social media alerts. They immediately place you in reactive mode and are likely to flood body with stress hormones
EXERCISE - We can have the best of intentions to work out in our lunch hour or after work but life often gets in the way. Morning exercise is easier as there are fewer competing demands on our time. It also energises us physically and mentally for the day ahead
FUEL YOUR DAY - You would not fuel a Formula One Car with diesel, yet we often compromise our ability to perform by neglecting breakfast. Take the time to prepare a nutrious meal to kick off the day
JOURNAL - A habit of high performers. Use it as a gratitude practice, a way to process thoughts and find clarity
UPLIFTING MUSIC - Create an uplifting playlist of your favourite tunes. Rather than watching repeat cycles of breakfast news which is likely to negatively impact your mood why not fill the kitchen with music that lifts your spirit
LEARNING - The quiet of the morning is a great time to read or listen to a podcast while enjoying your coffee. Feeling you have done something for you first thing is empowering to your mindset
PLAN THE DAY - What are the priorities for the day ahead? Visualise the outcome you aspire to achieve. What do you need to delegate? What are the emails you need to send once you reach your desk?
